Estranged Relations (2009-2010)
Vacant Swedish villas slowly disintegrating amidst the forest on the outskirts of Helsinki, were the source material for the room installation Estranged Relations. The viewer was confronted with an assortment of items collected from the site; decrepit wallpaper, worn window frames, moss, dirt, withered magazines from the 60s and bits of tablecloth. These details were camouflaged together with a large photograph depicting a view of a collapsed ceiling at the end of wooden floored hallway, with a further still image projection of the ground floor room of a domestic interior, revealing a stairwell and window, homogenizing the different media into a deceptive myriad of inscrutable skins. This exhibition was selected to be part of 48 Hours Neukoelln festival (2010) at the WerkStadt Art project space, Berlin kindly supported by Culture Ireland. It was also exhibited at Ptarmigan Gallery in 2009 in Helsinki.
